Mike Stroud and Evan Mast first met as Skidmore College students, but they did not work together until they recorded several songs under the name Cherry in 2001. For touring in 2006, they added a third member, Jacob Morris, on keyboard.

The group started out releasing their debut single Seventeen Years on Evan and his brother’s record label Audio Dregs label in the US and Rex Records in the UK. They released that single again on Evan and his brother E*Rock’s record label Audio Dregs. They then signed for XL Recordings, releasing their debut album and the single Germany to Germany. Ratatat occasionally remixes others for collected release on Ratatat Remixes Vol. 1 (which garnered the attention of Rolling Stone), as well as the later second volume, both of which were self-released in co-operation with Audio Dregs.

Recently, with their fourth record Baby 81, they developed a more concrete sound and style; encompassing blues, folk, and rock, while remaining angst-ridden in theme.

By: Spencer    Category: Showbox Theater Tickets, Concerts

Hot Chip may be a hot show. That was puntastic!. Hot Chip is coming to the Showbox theater here in Seattle. Here is some info from Wiki:

Hot Chip formed in 2000, though members Alexis Taylor and Joe Goddard had previously worked together and had been in the same sixth form at Elliott School in Putney, London. In an interview, Goddard said that early Hot Chip music was written like sixth-form poetry, with acoustic guitars. However, the band completely changed direction because they got “so pissed off with it” and decided to try and make the most inane songs they could.

After years of self-releasing records, they signed with Moshi Moshi in 2003 and released their debut LP Coming on Strong in 2004. Soon after this they started working on their second album and signed a US record deal with the DFA Records who re-released their debut album in late 2005.

Big Head Todd and the Monsters Tickets in Seattle

By: Spencer    Category: Showbox Theater Tickets, Concerts

Big Head Todd and the Monsters are coming to the Showbox theater. Get your butt to Seattle and stop by this show. Here is some info from Wiki:

The band was formed in 1986 with Todd Park Mohr on guitar and vocals, Brian Nevin drums and vocals and Rob Squires on bass and vocals. The trio had attended Columbine High School together and formed a band at the University of Colorado. The band name is a tribute to legendary blues/jazz “heads” (eg. Eddy Clean-head Vincent, etc.) It was actually just a fluke–they were scheduled to perform their first gig, but had no name…Todd came up with that at the spur of the moment and it stuck.[1]

The band soon built up a following in Denver and Boulder. They toured extensively throughout the Mountain States and West Coast of the United States in their van dubbed “The Colonel”, which clocked up over 400,000 miles.

In 1989, the band formed Big Records and released their first album Another Mayberry in 1989. Midnight Radio was released the following year. By 1993, Big Head Todd and the Monsters had developed a considerable live following across the United States. Their first live album Big Head Todd and the Monsters Live was recorded at the H.O.R.D.E. Festival in 1993.

The group signed with Giant Records in 1993 and recorded Sister Sweetly with Prince associate David Z. producing. This album went platinum and spawned three singles that made the rock charts including “Bittersweet”, “Circle” and “Brokenhearted Saviour”.

Kate Nash Tickets in Seattle

By: Spencer    Category: Showbox Theater Tickets, Concerts

Kate Nash is coming all the way to the states to play for you. She is performing at the Showbox theater here in Seattle. Here is some info from Wiki:

Born in Dublin, Republic of Ireland to an English father and Irish mother, moved to Harrow, London at an early age. Nash first became interested in music during her childhood. She learned how to play the piano at Sandbach School. She attended St. John Fisher School (Pinner) and moved onto the St Joan of Arc Catholic School, Rickmansworth. She was taught guitar by guitar teacher Shawn Temple who “gave help to write her songs, ending up with a #2 single and #1 album,” [2] and became her first love. Her musical talents were harnessed further when she was required to write songs for her A levels in Music and her time studying at the School for Performing Arts and Technology in North London. She made moves to start a career in acting by auditioning at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School but was rejected. In the days after her rejection she fell down a flight of stairs, breaking her foot. During her recovery, Nash was housebound and unable to move. Using this time to focus on her songwriting, she began to write some new songs, finished old ones and decided that she would book herself a gig at a local bar to showcase her songs, and subsequently decided to start a career in music. After several gigs, Nash uploaded her music to the popular social networking website MySpace. Lily Allen placed Nash in her top eight, attracting attention from potential fans. Nash found herself a manager before proceeding to look for producers for her music.

B-52s Tickets in Seattle

By: Spencer    Category: Showbox Theater Tickets, Concerts

I haven’t heard much from the B-52s for a long time but they were really big in the 90’s. They are coming to the showbox theater. Here is some info from Wiki:

The B-52’s are a New Wave rock band formed in Athens, Georgia, in 1976.

The band’s name comes from a particular beehive hairdo that is wrapped around, instead of teased, with an open “hole” in the top resembling the nose cone of the airplane of the same name. During their early years, wigs of that style were often worn by the band’s female singers Cindy Wilson and Kate Pierson. The correct name for the band has long been “The B-52’s,” but in 2008 they dropped the apostrophe, with their official website, and Funplex album and single covers reading “The B-52s.” Both spellings could now be considered correct.

Anti-Flag is an old school punk band. They are coming to Seattle for a show at the Showbox theater. Here is some info from Wiki:

Anti-Flag is an American political punk band from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, consisting of four members: Justin Sane (lead guitar, lead vocals), Chris #2 (bass, vocals), Chris Head (rhythm guitar, backing vocals), and Pat Thetic (drums). “Being the only punk rockers in Glenshaw, Pennsylvania”, guitarist Justin Sane and drummer Pat Thetic decided they were faced with either “hanging out at the mall, doing drugs, or playing punk rock”. They chose the latter and Anti-Flag was born. Despite multiple line-up changes, differing political ideologies, and their status as a fledgling independent band, Anti-Flag gained popularity in the punk community, ultimately releasing six albums on various independent labels (ranging from A-F Records, to Fat Wreck Chords, to Go Kart Records). In 2005, the band signed to RCA Records.

By: Spencer    Category: Showbox Theater Tickets, Concerts

I love Canada. Stars the band is coming to the Showbox theater here in Seattle. Tickets are at the Stubhub link below. Here is some info from Wiki:

Stars is a Canadian indie pop band. Originally formed in Toronto by vocalist Torquil Campbell and keyboardist Chris Seligman, the band relocated to New York City and then subsequently to Montreal.

Their music has been described as “beautiful, eloquent indie pop”, characterized by lush instrumentation, nimble production and mixing, narrative lyrics, and soft but nuanced vocals.. The band’s style has evolved from an electronic-pop sound as heard on Nightsongs (released on the Le Grand Magistery record label) to more rock-based instrumentation on their last two full-length albums, reflecting the permanent additions of singer-guitarist Amy Millan and bassist Evan Cranley on Heart (released on Paper Bag Records), and eventually drummer Pat McGee on Set Yourself on Fire.

The band’s breakthrough single was “Ageless Beauty”, from their 2004 album Set Yourself on Fire. While released to minimal fanfare in Canada in October 2004, Set Yourself on Fire slowly gained a strong following and critical praise soon after its March 8, 2005 U.S. release.

Pepper Concert in Seattle

By: Spencer    Category: Showbox Theater Tickets, Concerts

Who doesn’t like to see a half naked man in sweat pants? Pepper is coming to Seattle in the late fall and I hope he puts on more clothing for the weather. Come to the Showbox Theater for the show. Here is some info from Wiki:

After gathering a local following on the Big Island, Pepper gained the interest of Volcom Entertainment, who produced & distributed the band’s first release, “Give’n It”, combining dancehall, reggae, hip-hop, and pop. With the success of Give’N It, the band landed a spot on the 2001 Warped Tour.

Tegan And Sara Concert in Seattle

By: Spencer    Category: Showbox Theater Tickets, Concerts

I don’t know anything about Tegan and Sara, so I went to wikipedia to give you info. They are coming to Seattle to play at the Showbox theater. Come and See. Here is some info from Wiki:

Tegan and Sara were born in Calgary, Alberta. The duo initially played as PLUNK, and lacked a drummer or bass player. In 1997, the two used their school’s recording studio to record two albums: Who’s in Your Band? and Play Day. In 1998, they made an early breakthrough by winning Garage Warz Battle of the Bands, a local music competition in Calgary. Since then, the two have toured extensively with many artists, including Neil Young, Rufus Wainwright, The Pretenders, Ben Folds, The Killers, Rachael Cantu, Vivek Shraya, Cake, Gogol Bordello, Hot Hot Heat, Ryan Adams, Veda Hille, Little Birdy, Iron On, Little Brazil, Bryan Adams and Weezer and on Sarah McLachlan’s Lilith Fair. They were originally signed to Neil Young’s Vapor Records in Canada, and to Sire in the U.S. as their previous label, Sanctuary Records, is no longer releasing new music in the U.S. They are currently signed with Warner Brothers’ Records. Currently, Tegan lives in Vancouver and Sara lives in Montreal

When they were competing in Garage Warz, the duo was known as “Sara and Tegan” because when contacted at the last minute and asked for a name Tegan just said “Well we’re just Sara and Tegan..” and they were registered with their names in that order. Their first album, Under Feet Like Ours, was initially released under the name “Sara and Tegan”; copies are now a sought-after commodity among their fans.

The first release came in 1997: It’s All About the Girls under Fiddler Records in June, and later their debut album Nothing Gold Can Stay was released by Eulogy Recordings.

Nightwish Tickets in Seattle

By: Spencer    Category: Showbox Theater Tickets, Concerts

The Finnish are invading and Nightwish is the army. They are attacking at the Showbox in Seattle and moving on to other cities. Stop them while you have a chance. Here is some info from Wiki:

Nightwish is a Finnish symphonic power metal musical group, formed in 1996 in the town of Kitee, in eastern Finland. Nightwish is considered one of the bands responsible for the development and rise in popularity of symphonic metal at the end of the 1990s, and the creation of the symphonic metal genre.

Although the band has been prominent in their home country since the release of their first single, “The Carpenter” (1997) and debut album Angels Fall First, they did not achieve worldwide fame until the release of the albums Oceanborn and Wishmaster, which were released in 1998 and 2000 respectively. Their 2004 album, Once, led to Nightwish video clips being shown on MTV in the United States and inclusion of their music in U.S. movie soundtracks. Their biggest U.S. hit single, “Wish I Had an Angel” (2004), made it onto two U.S. film soundtracks as a means to promote their North American tour. The band produced three more singles and two music videos for the album, as well as “Sleeping Sun”, from the 2005 “best of” compilation album, Highest Hopes, prior to vocalist Tarja Turunen’s dismissal.

The extensive search for Turunen’s replacement, during the course of which anyone could have been considered by submitting a demo, ended in mid 2007. The former Alyson Avenue frontwoman Anette Olzon was revealed to be the new singer on May 24. The band declared the upcoming release of new album, “Dark Passion Play”, which features the charity single “Eva”, the newly released single “Amaranth”, and the unreleased third single “Bye Bye Beautiful” will be released on September 28.

Aesop Rock Concert in Seattle

Straight out of Long Island, Aesop Rock is coming to the Showbox. Seattle get ready for a party yeah, Fool!
Here is some info from Wiki:

Aesop Rock (born Ian Matthias Bavitz on 1976-05-11) is an American hip hop artist. He was in the forefront of the new wave of underground acts that emerged during the late 1990s/early 2000s. He is signed to El-P’s Definitive Jux label.

A Long Island, New York-born MC, Aesop initially recorded and released two self-financed records, Music for Earthworms (1997), featuring underground legend Percee P on two tracks, and the Appleseed EP (1999), while also working as a waiter. These two independent releases are widely sought after in the underground scene.[citation needed]

After moving to the Mush label, Aesop released his first major album, Float (2000), with guest appearances from Vast Aire, Slug, and Dose One. Production was split between Blockhead and Aesop himself, with one track by Omega One.

Shortly after releasing Float, Aesop Rock signed to Manhattan-based label Definitive Jux (commonly shortened to Def Jux), where he released Labor Days, an album dedicated to the discussion of labor in American society and the concept of “wage slaves”. This album was most well known for its single “Daylight.” Because of its popularity, Daylight was re-released in 2002 as a 7-track EP, including an “alternative” new version of the song, “Night Light,” whose paraphrased lyrics simultaneously refer back to, and stand in stark opposition to, the original’s.
