I can’t say I was excited when the musical came out in 1997. Lion King the Musical has done well over the years. The show is coming to Seattle for repeat engagements at the Paramount Theater. Here is some info from wikipedia:

It is the 32nd film in the Disney animated feature canon. The film was the highest grossing animated film of all time until the release of Finding Nemo (a Disney/Pixar computer-animated film). The Lion King was adapted into a successful Broadway stage musical in 1997. The musical is based on The Lion King film and is directed by Julie Taymor, using actors in animal costumes as well as giant, hollow puppets.[76] The musical garnered 6 Tony Awards including Best Musical and is produced by Disney Theatrical
